Health ½ credit
Health is designed to answer the need of young people for
accurate information about the functioning of their bodies and about the help
provided by modern science and medicine.
The focus is placed on physical, social, and emotional well-being. Development of decision-making skills will be
part of this course. One section of this
course must be completed to meet the graduation requirement.Nutrition
and Current Topics in Health ½ credit
During the first nine weeks, this course will focus on
exploring the world of nutrition. This course will include the study of
carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and the role of diet on the
development of chronic diseases. Students will gain knowledge of digestion,
absorption, metabolism, nutritional guidelines, and nutrition programs. During
the second nine weeks, this course will focus on helping students develop a
better understanding of contemporary health issues. Students must complete
Health, before taking this course. This course can only be taken once.
Careers in Health, Physical Education, and Sports 1/2 credit
This class will focus on the student interested in pursuing a health, or fitness related career after high school. It involve a variety of guest speakers and career interviewing along with hands-on labs focus on giving students a head start into the medical field. Qualities of healthcare workers along with liability, safety, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, injury prevention, CPR/First Aid and health maintenance will be explored. Students must complete "Health" before taking the course. This course can only be taken once.
