AP Psychology

CLASS LINK 

This AP Psychology course will introduce you to the systematic and scientific study of behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. You will be exposed to psychological facts, principals, and phenomena associated with each of the major approaches within psychology.

This course is designed to present an experience equivalent to that obtained in an undergraduate psychology course. A high degree of maturity and independence will be required of you. You will be responsible for mastering the material from the textbook and supplemental readings without necessarily discussing the material in class. The content and pacing of the course is challenging and will prepare you for the AP Psychology exam

Economics & Financial Literacy

 
 Economics and Financial Literacy is a one semester course and is aligned to Ohio’s New Learning Standards. The course will begin by exploring the fundamentals that guide individuals and nations as they make choices about how to use limited resources to satisfy their wants, placing focus on micro and macroeconomic concepts, as well as the global economy. The second half of the semester will examine the ability of individuals to use knowledge and skills to manage limited financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial security. A heavy emphasis will be placed on preparing students for their immediate financial future and teaching skills that will be applicable in real-world situations.
 
***Economics and Financial Literacy is a required course for graduation.

Sociology

Sociology explores the intersection of biography and history. Students learn the basic foundations of sociology, including its development as a field of inquiry, early sociological theory, and methodology. The course also analyzes social organization, addressing culture, structure socialization and social control. Students investigate how culture, class, race, sex, family, medicine, business, religion, education, and government affect our lives. Special attention is paid to the impact of society on self.

African American Studies

CLASS LINK 

In this course will will focus on developing a strong understanding and appreciation of African American history. We will explore how African American history is part of U.S. and world history, be able to recognize connections between African American history and other disciplines while building a solid social studies and academic vocabulary. We will continue to develop thinking skills that support the ability to challenge assumptions, think creatively, and solve real-life problems.

World Studies

Class Link

This course will provide a comprehensive study of modern world history from 1700 to the present. Among the topics students will investigate are the Rise of Democracy, the Industrial Revolution, and Imperialism. In addition to learning the history of this era, students learn basic geography, communication skills and critical thinking skills that will be used throughout their high school education. Students will be expected to complete outside reading and homework assignments, and do at least one research paper or project each quarter. Students must participate actively in class discussions and debates.  

Psychology

This course focuses on the biological (body), cognitive (mind), and learning (experiences) perspectives of psychology. In addition to those perspectives, the following areas of psychology will be studied: child development, adolescence, mental illness, therapy and Freudian, Behaviorist, Analytical, Existential, Neo-Freudian and Humanist theories.
