The school counseling program at Licking Heights North Elementary is available for all students to assist them in achieving success. School counseling seeks to remove any barriers to a student’s learning and development. Personal and social issues, as well as academic and career needs are addressed through individual counseling, in small groups, and in classroom lessons. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child at Licking Heights North.
Monthly classroom lessons address academic, personal/social, and career aspects of students’ development. The lessons may focus on goal-setting, cooperation, kindness, diversity and culture, respect, bullying, responsibility, and career exploration.
Small group counseling helps students build skills in relation to a particular issue over several weeks. Groups may include Circle of Friends, Changing Families, Cool Cats, Leadership Club, and Grief and Loss.
I am always available for individual counseling for students in need of support. Individual counseling may be needed just once, or more regularly.
Collaboration and Consultation
School counselors work closely with parents, guardians, teachers and school staff, and the community to find ways to best support students’ success.
Guide to Bullying
Bullying is intentionally aggressive behavior made up of repeated harmful acts. Bullying includes an imbalance of power between the bully and the victim. Bullying can be physical, verbal, relational, or cyber. Examples include hitting, threatening, name-calling, spreading rumors, excluding, and mean texts.
Tips for dealing with bullies:
Act confident: stand up straight, talk firmly, and look people in the eye
Stay calm and walk away
Stay close to friends
Stand up for yourself and others
Tell someone. This is not tattling, it is reporting so that everyone stays safe.
Believe in yourself
Don’t fight back. Things will just escalate and get worse.
*As a professional school counselor, I adhere to American School Counselor Association’s Code of Ethics. Counseling sessions are confidential, unless I believe there is the threat of harm.
