Mrs. Jayes' Fifth Grade Class

Welcome to my Classroom!

Read N Quiz and Reading Logs

The most important homework given in reading class is silent reading for 30 minutes every night.  Please use the provided reading calendar to record weekly progress.  Students are expected to turn in their reading calendar for a prize. We will be using Pizza Hut's BOOK IT program starting in October!

Mrs. Jayes' ELA students are expected to reach their monthly reading goal. Each student picks a monthly goal and is expected to get 75% or more of that goal.  Many books found at the store or library are Read N Quiz books.  Use the Read N Quiz or AR Bookfinder website to help you determine the level for each book.  However, I am open to children reading whatever book they find interesting as long as they are really reading!

WELCOME to fifth grade! My name is Mrs. Holly Jayes and I will be your child’s ELA and Science  teacher for the 2018-2019 school year! This will be my 29th year of teaching students in the intermediate grades and I have as much enthusiasm as I do experience. This year I will be teaming with Mrs. Hemmert, your child's Math amd Social Studies teacher.  I am excited to get this year underway and I look forward to working with you and your child.

I have worked very hard to ensure that the lessons I have developed will be interesting, engaging, and interactive. The lessons will be based on the newly adopted Ohio Standards which will help your child achieve success on state tests and at the same time foster a love for learning.   Of course, I need your help and support in order to be truly successful. As you know, school is a three-part responsibility with parent, child, and teacher making up equal pieces of the pie. Let’s work together to make this year great!
