Description of the May 2, 2017 School Bond Levy
On May 2, 2017 Licking Heights residence will have the opportunity to vote on a 4.99-mills bond issue. Voter approval of the issue will provide the funding needed for construction of a new high school building to alleviate serious overcrowding across the district. In addition, this issue provides some needed funds to address other capital, maitenance, and student transportation needs - and it secures nearly $21 million in State funding toward the new high school project costs.

What Happens if the Levy Passes?
  • Captures nearly $21 million from the state of Ohio to build a new high school
  • Maintain our low pay to participate fees
  • Maintain and expand transportation fleet to keep pace with growing enrollment
  • Hire up to 16 teachers/staff depending upon enrollment
    • Reduces class sizes
      • Elementary: 24 students per class
      • Middle :        25 students per core class*
      • High:             25 students per core class*
* Core classes are determines as Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies

What Happens if the Levy Fails?
  • Loss of nearly $21 million from the State of Ohio to build a new high school
  • Pay to participate fees will need to increase
  • No expansion of transportation fleet / Bus routes eliminated
  • No high school bussing
  • No bussing for households living within a 1 mile radius of their attending elementary or middle school 
  • Reduction in staff hiring
    • Class sizes will increase
      • Elementary: 27 - 30 students per class
      • Middle:        32 - 35 students per core class*
      • High:            32 - 35 students per core class*
*Core classes are determined as Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies
