I think I first gained my deep appreciation for the natural world and
science from my parents (who are both retired teachers). I grew
up outdoors; hiking, camping, and swimming with my family in the
Sierra Nevada mountains and at the beach. In fact, I cannot remember a
time in my life that I wanted to do a job that was NOT related to science.
I attended California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California
where I received my degree in Biology in 2006. After a move across the
country I continued my education at The Ohio State University where I
earned my Life Science teaching credential as well as my Master's Degree in
Education in the summer of 2008. I have been a life science teacher
at Licking Heights High School since the fall of 2008.
We live in a time where we are in need of creative, scientific
minds to develop innovative technologies that will help solve the problems we will face in our future. My daughters remind me every day that we are all initially equipped with an innate curiosity that many of us lose along the way. My purpose is to not only pass on my love for science to my students, but also to help spark and develop their critical thinking skills, creativity, and sense of wonder so that they can go on to make this world a better place!
