Winter sports are here
By Ellie Lewis, communications intern

Now that football season is over, what's happening in the world of high school sports? Winter isn't typically a time known for its plethora of competitive sports, but Licking Heights actually has many athletic teams specific to the chilly season.

Most notably are the girls and boys basketball teams, both of which have a history of success and draw sports-loving crowds to every game. The Winter cheerleading team cheers on the boys team at both home and away games while competing at their own intense competitions. Pep band, who plays at both boys’ and girls’ home games, is also beginning soon.

As well, individually competitive sports such as indoor track, swim, and wrestling are now in full swing with many talented members. Swim has already had their first meet where they completely swept the competition, taking all of the top spots. The other sports are practicing hard for their own meets and preparing to take many awards home to their school.

"I'm really excited because we get to go to some meets that we've never gone to before," said Tori King, a second-year member of the Licking Heights swim team. "I feel like we have a real chance of placing at a lot of them."

If you're interested in supporting these Winter sports teams, most meets and games are detailed on the announcements or on the school website. Dates and times are listed, so make sure to come support your Winter hornets!
