Taste of the holidays at Licking Heights
By Anna Singh, communications intern

On Thurs., Nov. 15, students at Licking Heights had their first taste of the holidays! Districtwide, more than 2,700 Thanksgiving meals were served. This holiday meal is an annual event and has been ongoing for over 10 years.

This year’s Thanksgiving meal consisted of turkey, green beans, and mashed potatoes. To also satisfy sweet tooths, the meal ended with a special dessert, pumpkin pie. Most students of Licking Heights found the meal to be, “very delicious and just like the holiday.”  According to Ginger Parsons, food service director, the turkey served for Thanksgiving was Jennie-O Turkey.

On previous years serving Thanksgiving meals, there have been a few minor activities. For example, a few years ago West Elementary filled their cafeteria with Pilgrims and Native Americans as they all shared the wonderful Thanksgiving meal. Although this no longer occurs, former students recall how much fun they had dressing up like those at the first Thanksgiving.

While Licking Heights does not formally partake in any other holiday meal, they do plan culturally diverse meals in the elementary schools. All in all, no matter your nationality, religious or cultural beliefs, we all have something to be thankful for and that is why Thanksgiving is celebrated.
