Licking Heights TESOL program receives recognition

Licking Heights was selected as one of five districts in the state of Ohio as a day site visit for educators attending the 2017 Ohio TESOL Conference. 

 

The district welcomed nine 9 teachers from five districts across the state. District visitors hailed from Cambridge City Schools, Horizon Science Academy, Shaker Heights City Schools, Springfield City Schools, and Willard City Schools. Ms. Laura Mickelson, ESL teacher, Central Middle , focused on student portfolios and the use of Google classroom. Carah Casler, ESL teacher, North Elementary, highlighted the effective use of peer tutoring. 


Ms. Mickelson also received the 2017 Ohio TESOL ‘Excellence in Teaching’ award. She was one of multiple finalists across the state of Ohio.


As the conference, she presented a panel session on the use of electronic portfolios in the classroom, and Ms. Debra Lynd was recognized for her contributions to the Ohio TESOL board.
