2021-2022 School Hearing/Vision Screening Information

Hello Licking Heights Families,

Hearing and vision screenings will be administered starting October 5th until the end of the school year to certain grades levels and any new students to the district. The grade levels that will be screened are preschool, kindergarten, first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh grade as required by state law.

Why is it important to have your child’s vision screened? Young children with vision problems do not know the way that they see the world is not the way they should be seeing it! Without early detection and treatment, children’s vision problems can lead to permanent vision loss and learning difficulties.

Vision screening will consist of the following for Central Intermediate School:

Distance visual acuity - ability to see objects far away

How will the results be shared if your student does not pass

If your child does not pass the hearing or vision screening, the school nurse or clinic health aide will send a letter to share the results and may make a recommendation for further evaluation by an audiologist or an eye care specialist. If you have any questions about the school hearing or vision screening program, please call the school nurse or your building clinic health aide.

If you would like to excuse your child, please stop by your student’s school to pick up a waiver form to fill out.

Thank you,
