BHSM Architects, in partnership with Licking Heights Local Schools, is proud to announce that Licking Heights High School has been selected for publication in Endeavor Business Media’s American School & University® 2024 Educational Interiors Showcase. It was featured in the August 2024 edition of the magazine and online at SchoolDesigns.com.
An annual competition honoring education design excellence, the Educational Interiors Showcase spotlights projects representing today’s most effective learning environments.
Opened in August 2020, Licking Heights High School was built to accommodate exponential student growth seen in Licking Heights since 2010. The school, which is 273,500 square feet, holds 1,500 students and is located at 4101 Summit Rd., Pataskala, OH 43062. It was designed with continued growth in mind and intentionally built for easy additions, ultimately able to hold 1,800 students.
School amenities include an auditorium with expandable seating; a main gym, auxiliary gym and weight room; an outdoor amphitheater and courtyard; a library and Media Center; and a cafeteria designed for a full population of 1,800 students.
The district is currently building an addition to the school that will hold 350 students. This addition is funded by a $66 million bond issue generously passed by the community in May 2022.
A jury of American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education members and education administrators evaluated submissions from architectural firms, schools, and universities across the country.
Sixty-six projects were chosen for publication in AS&U, an educational facilities, purchasing and business administration magazine reaching 57,000 facility planners, school and university administrators and architects with this issue. This is the competition’s 34th year.
As a guide for their evaluations of the designs, the jurors paid special attention to these criteria:
—Inclusive and welcoming to all
—Agile
—Beauty that inspires joy
—Seamless integration of indoors and out
—Promotes collaboration, community, and active learning
—Exhibits innovation throughout
—Sustainability
—Budget-conscious
—Health and safety
—High-quality construction
Licking Heights is incredibly grateful to the taxpayers of Licking County for their continued support of the district, including projects that provide students with the necessary infrastructure to learn, grow and develop as productive young citizens.
