Educating Ohio’s children goes beyond school walls–a strong relationship between local and state elected officials is essential for the success of school districts.
On April 13, 2023, Licking Heights Local Schools welcomed State Representative Thaddeus J. Claggett to the district for a visit. Representative Claggett represents House District 68, which includes western Licking County and the Licking Heights district.
“Strong partnerships between our law and policymakers is essential for a well-rounded, quality public education system,” Dr. Kevin S. Miller, Superintendent of Licking Heights Local Schools, says. “We sincerely appreciate Representative Claggett and his aide taking time out of their schedules to visit our district and get to know our administrative team, teachers, students, and School Board members. We are fortunate to be in a House District where our representative is accessible and willing to listen to the needs of students.”
Representative Claggett’s visit included time to meet directly with school leaders and administrators and to visit with students from both Licking Heights South Elementary and Licking Heights High School.
At the high school, Representative Claggett spoke with an Advanced American History class about the importance of civil engagement and why he entered public service. He also spoke with students at the Fab Lab about their design projects and stopped by the band room to hear a rehearsal.
While at South Elementary, Representative Claggett spent time with a second-grade class of English language learners and toured one of the art rooms, where students worked on clay sculptures. He ended his visit with a question and answer session with a fourth-grade classroom, where students asked everything from “Have you ever sponsored a bill?” to “What was your childhood nickname?”
