Health Services

Health Services and Wellness

Health Services is a team of clinic aides and school nurses that work together with health departments, medical providers, and outside community programs to promote health and safety among our staff, students, and community. Medical care for both staff and students is provided everyday. Collaboration between physicians, counselors, teachers, and parents is a daily task to provide the best care to our students while attending school.

Parents should consult their medical provider for accidents or illnesses that occur at home. Students with injuries or other conditions that limit activity must have a note from the doctor detailing the student’s limitations and management of the student while in school.

Student Well-Being

Student well-being is the responsibility of the staff. All staff members are familiar with emergency procedures such as fire and tornado drills, and accident reporting procedures. Should a student be aware of any dangerous situation or accident, they must notify a staff member immediately.
Emergency Medical Authorization (EMA) Forms

The Board of Education has established a policy that every student must have an Emergency Medical Authorization (EMA) form completed and signed by his/her parent in order to participate in any activity off school grounds. This includes field and spectator trips, athletic and other extra-curricular, and co-curricular activities.

The Emergency Medical Authorization (EMA) form is available to every parent at the time of enrollment, as well as throughout the year to update their information as needed. Failure to complete or update the form annually will jeopardize the student's educational program and safety while on school grounds. Please follow the PowerSchool link to view the forms in filling out an EMA on PowerSchool. Please send your school's health aide and the district nurse the appropriate forms relating to your child's diagnosis (medication administration, doctor's orders, etc.). Optional Student Accident Insurance Plan Information
Immunizations

Each student must have the immunizations required by law or have an authorized waiver. If a student does not have the necessary shots or waivers, the principal may remove the student or require compliance with a set deadline. This is for the safety of all students and in accordance with state law. Any questions regarding immunizations or waivers should be directed to the district nurse.  Unless a waiver is given, students must meet the requirements from the Ohio Department of Health.
Prescribed and Over-the-Counter Medications

All prescribed and over-the-counter medications are to be delivered to the school clinic by an adult. The school health aide is available to discuss the procedures for medications and treatments, and will keep these orders on file in the clinic. No medications or medical treatments are to take place in school without the knowledge of the health aide.
Licking Memorial Health Center at Licking Heights

Thanks to a partnership between Licking Memorial Health Systems (LMHS) and our district, students can access necessary health care right at the high school. LMHS has provided the financial and staffing investments needed to create a secure Health Center inside the school. Students from preschool to 12th grade can receive treatment with parent permission. Licking Heights staff also may receive care at the Licking Memorial Health Center. Click HERE to learn more.

The Licking Memorial Health Center at Licking Heights is inside a void storage area in the high school. There is no cost to the district as LMHS financed the project and will provide all necessary staff. The Health Center accepts a wide variety of insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Schedule an appointment for your student by calling (220) 564-7830.
