Paying the bills, presenting to shareholders, and managing tournament revenue for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is all in a school day’s work for Annie Bossick.
The third-grade Everest (West) Elementary student participated in Take Your Child to Work Day on April 25 with her father, OHSAA Staff Accountant Greg Bossick.
The day started with a Board of Directors meeting, where Annie networked with coaches and administrators from high schools across Ohio. She helped her dad as he presented financial statements and how winter tournaments impacted those figures, and received her own personalized business card and OHSAA lapel pin from the Board President and Vice President.
After lunch, Annie took on the important task of making sure everyone was paid for the week. She loaded check stock into the printer, helped her dad print checks, and stored the digital files of scanned checks. Greg also showed Annie how to communicate with the bank about check validity, separate checks from stubs, and properly file invoices.
The day ended with an educational lesson about the tournaments the OHSAA runs in all 28 sports–14 for girls and 14 for boys. Annie learned about the 88 counties of Ohio and how those are split into six different athletic districts–with Franklin and Licking County in the Central District.
Greg tied Annie’s classroom learning about calculating area into teaching her about exponents in single-elimination basketball tournaments. Annie’s school also did a library book bracket for March Madness, which helped her understand how brackets are used for athletic tournaments.
Thank you to the OHSAA for allowing Annie to visit and participate in Take Your Child to Work Day!
