Our Projects

Elementary School

The all-new elementary school will include grades K-4 and will feature:

  • 34 classrooms

  • Special needs units

  • Specialized space dedicated to English Learners

  • Collaborative environment for 900 students with flexible capacity

  • Art and music rooms and gymnasium with storage

  • Media Center and STEM Lab for 21st-century learning

  • Kitchen and dining

  • Natural daylight

  • Energy-efficient lighting and HVAC

  • Parent drop off and pick up area will include space for up to 100 cars at a time

Current Timeline: The district is working closely with our construction manager to utilize value engineering to save costs where possible. Current supply chain delays in addition to a highly competitive local construction market where many large projects are vying for a small pool of qualified vendors caused delays in the project timeline.

The new elementary school is currently on track for completion by October 15, 2024–two months after the start of school in August. Rather than let this building sit empty throughout the entire 2024-2025 school year, we have created a plan to utilize it as soon as we can. The students assigned to the new school will begin their school year temporarily located in North Elementary. Once the new school is ready for move-in, the students and staff members at North will relocate to the new building.

Athletic Complex

The current athletic complex was built when Licking Heights had a total enrollment of 1,674. Today, enrollment is over 5,000 students, making us a Division I school. We are the only district in central Ohio without the ability to host major events due to our stadium’s size and condition. The new complex will feature:

  • Turf field that will accommodate a variety of activities and sports (football, soccer, Band Spectacular)

  • All-weather eight-lane track and field event (high jump, discus, etc.) space

  • Multi-functional scoreboard

  • Grandstand seating capacity of 5,000 with press box

  • Concessions for both Athletic and Music Boosters and restrooms

  • New parking

  • Multipurpose Field House that includes:

    • Three locker rooms, an athletic trainer room, coach office space

    • Approximately 12 weightlifting stations

    • 30-yard indoor turf area for multisport use

    • Indoor batting cage

Current Timeline: The district is waiting for crucial equipment to complete the complex which will be used for a variety of sporting, extracurricular and school-wide events. The current timeline to receive and install the necessary equipment including an electric panel, restroom and concession equipment is 52 weeks (one year). The complex cannot function safely without these items that are on long wait times due to supply chain delays out of the district’s and the construction manager’s control. We hope to see our Hornets shine in the complex in 2024!

Transportation Garage

The current bus garage no longer accommodates our growing fleet as a result of increasing enrollment. It also creates significant traffic flow, parking, and pedestrian safety issues. The new garage will feature:

  • Secured and lighted complex for improved safety

  • Space to meet the needs of a fleet of our size

  • Multiple maintenance and wash bays to help extend the life of our buses

  • Meeting area for driver education and certification

  • Effective communication for dispatch and transportation director

  • Energy-efficient lighting and HVAC

  • Improved traffic flow, and student and pedestrian safety

High School Addition

The high school, built in 2020, was constructed so it could easily accommodate another 300-350 students with an addition. The addition to the high school will feature:

  • Two stories

  • 12 classrooms

  • Increased safety and security

  • Collaborative environment

  • Natural daylight

  • Energy-efficient lighting and HVAC

Board Offices—Removed from Scope of Work

A large portion of the existing board office is unsafe and currently unusable. Originally, new offices were included in the scope of work to provide easier access for the public and improved traffic flow, and student and pedestrian safety. Due to construction delays and inflationary pressures on both workers and materials, the project has been eliminated in its original form.
