Licking Heights West has adopted the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support Program (PBIS). Teachers and administrators have developed a “framework” based on our school’s needs. The framework’s three core expectations are: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible.
At the beginning of each year, as well as continually reinforcing throughout the year, teachers at West will teach or review with every student in the building the correct positive behavior to Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible while in the lunch room, the hallway, the classroom, in the restroom, on the bus.... While teaching these lessons, teachers physically walk their students to these specific areas, and discuss the importance of positive behavior at the location. Students are taught bus expectations while sitting on an actual school bus, thanks to the transportation department. Staff at West believes it is very important to show students the positive behavior that is expected while in the actual environment where it is expected from them. The goal of the lessons is to show students exactly what is to be expected of them at all times in all parts of the building. We believe that by modeling the positive behavior for the students it will decrease the negative behavior and the need for disciplinary action.
