Here is a list of activities for practicing sight words.
~Use an art box and fill with sand. Use eraser side of a pencil to write words in sand. You can also have child use finger.
~Write 5 sight words on index cards. Hang these words on bathroom mirror, refrigerator, bedroom door, etc. Your child must recite them before entering or exiting the room.
~Use wiki sticks (dollar store) and bend sticks to form letters in word. Trace letters with finger while reciting letters.
~Use alphabet stickers to make words.
~Use screens (JoAnn Fabrics/Michaels-screens used to sew) to write sight words. Take a piece of paper and place on top of the screen. Using a crayon, have your child write their sight word. The word will be bumpy. Then have your child trace the word with their finger.
~Place a set of word cards in the car. Have your child pick 10 words to practice while in the car.
~Look through magazines and the newspaper to find sight words.
~Use alphabet noodles, cookies, etc. to make sight words.
~Use cookie cutter alphabet letters to use with play dough or to make cookies.
~Write sight word very large on a piece of paper. Take all different color crayons or markers and trace the letters.
~Hide sight words around the house and play hide and seek.
~Play sight word basketball by writing sight words on pieces of paper. If you child reads the word within 3 seconds, they can toss it into the trash can.
