Unit 3: Cellular Structure & Function

Unit 3: Cellular Structure & Transport

In this unit students will:
  • Compare and contrast prokaryote/eukaryote and plant/animal cells
  • Learn the basic functions of eukaryotic organelles
  • Construct a concept map in which the relationships between organelles is examined
  • Compare and contrast various types of cellular transport
  • Use a model cell to investigate rates of diffusion and how osmolarity impacts cell shape
    • Correctly identify hypotonic, hypertonic, and isotonic solutions
  • Calculate surface area and volume in order to examine how these impact rates of diffusion
  • Calculate % change in mass and use data to support scientific claims about osmosis
  • Relate structure to function when examining specialized types of cells and tissues
  • Make connections between cellular functions and the human body
