In this unit students will:
- Compare and contrast prokaryote/eukaryote and plant/animal cells
- Learn the basic functions of eukaryotic organelles
- Construct a concept map in which the relationships between organelles is examined
- Compare and contrast various types of cellular transport
- Use a model cell to investigate rates of diffusion and how osmolarity impacts cell shape
- Correctly identify hypotonic, hypertonic, and isotonic solutions
- Calculate surface area and volume in order to examine how these impact rates of diffusion
- Calculate % change in mass and use data to support scientific claims about osmosis
- Relate structure to function when examining specialized types of cells and tissues
- Make connections between cellular functions and the human body
